Description (last modified by raymond) (diff)

I believe these were once used for the HUMBUG meeting address space.

Should be fine to dispense with them.

Send email to General warning people about the plan to remove stuff from the zone file.

Message sent to General with deadline for action of 15 May. Next action due then.

I have updated the comments at the top of the zone file, modified the serial number to the standard format, removed all the member entries that were not requested for preservation, and marked a couple of queries with XXX. The TTL is still 600 to allow for quick repairs to any mistakes. I will set the TTL back to 1 day after 25 May.

It appears that DNS NOTIFY doesn't work for the zoneedit.com name servers, so I've reduced the refresh field in the SOA to the minimum value suggested by RFC 1912.

A question for all sysadmins: does anybody know if the following block in the zone file is still required?

        ; Aliases requested by UQ
        net-p105 IN A 192.168.105.0
        broadcast-p105 IN A 192.168.105.255
        net-p107 IN A 192.168.107.0
        broadcast-p107 IN A 192.168.107.255

I'm a bit sorry nobody has answered my question from a week ago about the need for the "Aliases requested by UQ".

However, it's a small blot on the zone file and the other changes have elicited no complaints after a week, so I have restored to TTL to the normal 1 day value and will now close this ticket.

As suggested by Russell, I've commented out the UQ aliases and added a note that they should be removed if nobody complains by 01-Jan-2011.

Not sure what happened in Raymond's change: the ticket description got changed instead of the comment going in as a change remark. Anyway, I won't restore the original description, but I have taken Raymond's advice and the UQ aliases have now been deleted. If they are needed again, they are easy to retrieve from the Mercurial history.
